Data centers are running into a massive resource problem. Modern computer clusters chug billions of gallons of fresh water every year and overload local power grids just to keep their servers from overheating.

Rootstrike is an attempt at a practical alternative. I'm building low-power hardware nodes designed to live outdoors and cool themselves using natural airflow. By cutting liquid cooling out of the equation, we can run real computing infrastructure without chewing through local water reserves.

Smart Fan Control via MOSFETs

Instead of noisy, energy-draining refrigeration setups, the board uses an N-Channel MOSFET circuit to adjust fan speeds on the fly. The onboard microcontroller reads live temperatures and ramps the fans up or down only when necessary.

Live Weather Sensors

The node keeps a constant eye on its environment. Using precise sensors wired over I2C, it checks ambient temperature, humidity, and air pressure twice every second so the system can adjust to sudden outdoor weather shifts.

Behind the Build

I started this project because taking millions of gallons of clean drinking water just to chill server racks never made sense to me.

Rather than just talking about resource waste, I wanted to build a working alternative with my own hands. I'm wiring up physical nodes with STM32 microcontrollers, writing bare-metal firmware from scratch, and building sensor circuits to handle real-world temperatures. It's an active experiment to prove we can run compute hardware out in natural air streams without burning out the chips or destroying local ecosystems.

Meet Teni

Hey, I'm Teni. I study Computer Science and Sustainability. Studying tech alongside environmental science quickly opened my eyes to how unbalanced our current tech infrastructure really is.

I love spending time building things from the ground up—whether that's writing custom graphics code, tuning physics rules, or designing hardware logic paths. Rootstrike comes directly out of that mindset.

Instead of treating software design like it exists in a vacuum, I want to build systems that work *with* their real-world environment. I prefer keeping things practical, building real physical prototypes, and letting the hardware speak for itself.
